July Top Ten: My Favorite Artworks

I'm not much into art, but since I'm committed to copying Jim, who went artsy this month, my top ten list is my favorite works of visual art. Some of these works are just cool, and that's really the only explanation I can give. Others made the top ten list because, for some reason, I remember something about them and I think maybe the information will help me win Jeopardy some day.

1) Edward Hopper - Nighthawks - Probably my favorite, but of course it was out on exhibit when I went to see it at the Art Institute

2)Alfred Stieglitz - Flatiron Building (photo)

3) Georges Seurat - A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte

4) Pablo Picasso – Guernica - The only Picasso I can make (some) sense of.

5) Edvard Munch - The Scream

6) Salvador Dali - The Persistence of Memory

7) Charles Sheeler – The Artist Looks at Nature

8) Georgia O’Keefe – Black Iris - O'Keefe did some really great pencil drawings.

9) Gilbert Stuart – George Washington – I just like GW

10) John Entwistle – Who By Numbers

The Who dot-to-dot definitely belongs on the list with those other masterpieces!

Are you going to see them when they tour?

Only if someone buys me tickets. I read they're going for $300 a piece. I think I'll be just fine with one of the live cds (each show is recorded in its entirety)and the new album.

I'm starting to feel like the man at the counter... sitting around, waiting for something new... on your blog.

Get writing. :-)

Not much of an "artie" myslef but have always been a fan of #'s 1 and 3. #5 is just wrong. I'm going to have nightmares. About 10 years ago Van Gogh's work really started to intrigue me. Not at all sure why but I fell in love with his "Starry Night". I invested in this like 10lb book on his work (have yet to read it though). Jason says we should put it in our office. (The bathroom).
